Background

UNICEF Moldova is seeking a dedicated:

Programme Assistant, GS6, on Temporary Appointment within Child Protection Section

Expected starting date: 1 June 2015

Purpose: Under general supervision of the Chief of the Programme, performs a variety of information gathering, monitoring, technical and administrative services of moderate scope and difficulty, in support of programme activities.

Major Duties and responsibilities:

  • Collects information mainly from records and reports and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports on programme and project activities and budget.
  • Organizes data and information, prepares and maintains records, documents and control plans for the monitoring of project/programme implementation. Maintains, logs, files and updates records in prescribed format for subsequent use.
  • Processes and examines the information and data in accordance with instructions received, making necessary abstracts and computations.
  • Contributes to the preparation of reports, project documents and submissions to Governments by providing information, preparing tables and drafting relatively routine sections. Prepares background information for use in discussions with Governments and other organizations. Participates in the briefing and debriefing of project personnel.
  • Maintains and keeps current registers and control plans on the status of projects at the formulation, implementation and operational stages.
  • Scrutinizes plans of operations, exchanges of letters and takes appropriate follow-up action. Assists in the administrative process of government/ both central and local levels and NGOs requests for assistance.
  • Summarizes information reflecting current obligations and future programme and/or budgetary implications.
  • Carries out specific operational/control tasks for programme/project implementation.
  • Performs other duties as required by the programme and office management.

Key skills, technical background, and experience required:

  • Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a field related to the economics or public finances;
  • Two to five years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative/management work, of which at least one year is closely related to support of programme activities;
  • Fluency in English, Romanian and Russian, both oral and written.
