Incepand cu anul 1996, HIV/SIDA a cunoscut un parcurs alarmant in Republica Moldova. In perioada 1987-2003, au fost inregistrate peste 1.700 de persoane infectate, dintre care 72 la suta erau barbati, alte 38 la suta – femei. Fiecare a treia persoana infectata are intre 20 si 24 ani.
